Description:

SKAPC transformed a 1954 one-story, wooden cottage situated in historic Woodstock, New York, into a highly-amenitized country/summer home for a NYC family. SKAPC had previously worked with the client on the family’s townhouse renovation in Williamsburg.

Located one mile from Woodstock Village, the home is situated on 2.27 acres of land on a private non-outlet road. The scope of work included gut renovating the existing structure, adding a pool deck and pool, lifting the house on stilts, adding a floor and creating a design resembling a ranch-style cottage. Also, the original house included a non-code compliant walk-out basement. To address this, SKAPC raised the floor by two feet and reclad the entire enclosure with energy code compliant insulation, air wrap, and water wrap, reducing its ecological footprint and promoting cost efficiency.

A two-car garage was added and sited with the house to create an automobile court. Architectural elements like a new pergola attached to the garage and a low stone wall define the inner courtyard.

SKAPC utilized natural materials, including exposed wood throughout the design, and the overall modern feel evokes a 60s era “Mad Men” aesthetic reflective of the 1950s original home.
