Description:

When Andy and Rina Collins, founders of early childhood literacy center Book Nook, set out to expand their business’ reach with a new Tribeca location, they quickly discovered that Steven Kratchman was the perfect architect for the job. The new space was next door to SKAPC’s offices and the firm has significant experience completing educational-based architecture projects. After visiting Book Nook’s existing Upper West Side location to gain a better understanding of its unique curriculum-centered concept, the SKAPC team utilized the white box space in 23 Warren Street’s cellar to bring the Collins’ vision to life. Small areas were built out, and furniture layouts and material palettes were carefully selected to provide a learning environment designed to stimulate a child’s curiosity and imagination. The unique concept of “round tables” where students gather to work together were centrally located. With large trees and mini-houses set along the walls, the décor and interior design create the feeling of literally stepping into a children’s book.
