Description:
SKAPC redesigned the NYC headquarters of Axel Johnson Inc., a Swedish-based private operating investment company. The fifth-generation family-owned business has been operating in the U.S. for almost 100 years. SKAPC’s design intent was to create an office space that encapsulated Axel Johnson’s business values, entrepreneurship and operating style and complements the building’s chic Soho location. The scope of work included the creation of conference rooms and reception areas; new bathrooms; a new pantry; private individual offices; and open plan office space. With Axel Johnson’s offices situated on the building’s top floor, a skylight was incorporated to maximize natural light throughout the space; an access way and staircase leading to the roof also were built into the design. Glass walls and doors provide privacy in conference rooms and offices while allowing for ample natural light and a sense of openness. Careful consideration was given to furniture placement and was pivotal to defining the different spaces and uses of this open-plan office setting, as was flooring design choices.
