Description:

SKAPC renovated the entrance and elevator lobby and updated the façade of the Urban Outfitters store in N.Y.C.’s trendy NoHo District. It is the location of the popular brand’s first Manhattan store. Built in 1910, the landmark, Renaissance Revival style structure is a traditional century brownstone with an ornate façade. The scope of the work involved establishing an alternate lobby at the back of the building – previously used a freight entry –that was ADA compliant and would create an attractive, off-Broadway entry with less commercial traffic. A second staircase, deliveries, mechanical mezzanine and freight elevator all were served by this back entry. The design intent was to aesthetically enhance the rear façade and add a new marquis compliant with Landmarks Preservation Commission requirements, along with new flooring and lighting. Because this was a combination of freight and lobby entry, the design concept involved using the same durable material for the interior floors, walls and ceiling making the small space seem larger. Considerable attention also was paid to signage and brand identity.
