Description:

SKAPC was hired for the interior renovation and combination of two units situated on the seventh floor of the Upper East Side’s Saga House, an exclusive 11-story, 19-unit condominium property. SKAPC’s work focused on creating a seven-room home with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large open plan kitchen and living area, and formal dining and living room spaces. The dining and living rooms boast a shared wood-burning fireplace, which serves as a unique design element, and eye-catching south and east views of New York City. Relocating the kitchen from the front to the rear posed specific challenges in the design process, including the availability of only long and narrow spaces and an existing column situated where an island would be added. To address these issues, SKAPC cleverly designed the kitchen as a collection of open work areas and camouflaged the column in stainless steel cladding. As a key design element, the contemporary kitchen leads to both a terrace boasting city views and an open plan eating area and family room. The overall feel for the interiors is modern, yet classic, incorporating dark hardwood floors, marble surfaces, neutral wall colors and clean lines.
