Description:
Built in 1947, this four-bedroom single-story residence, situated on a main street in Croton-on-Hudson, was fully renovated and enlarged. Reflecting the area’s grand farm and estate houses of yesteryear while staying true to Founder Steven Kratchman’s contemporary style, the redesign utilized clean lines, geometric shapes, monolithic colors, and a signature combination of materials. Extensive renovations included relocating the interior stairs to the rear of the home, raising the perimeter walls and eliminating attics to create double-height spaces with exposed rafters as design features, and employing a Dutch Colonial-style tradition of oversized parapets detailed with metal roofing. The first floor now boasts a large kitchen with dining nook and opens into the dining and living rooms, which connect to the inviting porch and outdoor spaces. On the second floor, an expansive master bedroom features a walk-in closet leading into the five-fixture master bath; nearby are two bedrooms and a bathroom. Kratchman designed the cellar to serve a variety of uses, including a home office, mudroom, TV/media room and guest bedroom; the attic features a small home office, as well.
