Description:

A four-year, multi-faceted renovation of Apogee in Cliffside Park transformed the 30-story cooperative along New Jersey’s Gold Coast into an ultra-modern high-rise with sophisticated elegance. SKAPC served as master planner, architect and designer of the project, focusing on exterior curb appeal and interior amenity spaces to enhance the resident experience and increase shareholder value. The original property included what appeared to be an abandoned lobby and foreboding concrete canopy. Employing an inclusive process with Board constituents, management and shareholders, the SKAPC team considered inventive ways to refresh existing elements to minimize cost and maximize sustainability. SKAPC’s design created an eye-catching entranceway and inviting interior of the three-story lobby, which serves as the project’s centerpiece. Wide-ranging improvements included replacing the existing canopy with a distinctive glass, metal and wood marquis; relocating the redesigned front desk; introducing a large, two-sided fireplace in the lobby as a divider; creating a four-sided, double-height living wall – one of the lobby’s most dramatic elements – that has a sculptural feel with each side changing to reflect the exposure and light conditions.
